Smart Recorder - The Voice Recorder App Reviews

This app has potential, but I cannot get it to save files in anything other than the default (SMRC) format -- which is pretty much useless if you want to do other things with your audio files. The preferences pane allows you to set the "save as" option to MP3, but it simply doesnt work. Save your money and get the free Audacity software. It is much better than this app.

At first I wondered if the auto pause fail was something local to my mac, but after the update it still does not funtion. When I first downed it the auto pause worked like a dream. Now that it no longer works I hardly think it is worth using it. Like the new add ons with new version, just hope the auto pause gets fixed. I have spent 30m this morning trying to fix it. Not worth the time and trouble at some point.

Was working OK, but during a very important meeting I had two days of appended recordings and then the typed notes disappeared. VERY FRUSTRATING. I use another program on my ipad that works GREAT but wanted one for my Macbook Air….This IS NOT THE ONE!

Just bought it and try to open files wifi synced from iphone 4, application keep crushing when try to play the recording ( recorded with same smart recorder for ios). is there any fix?

I love/hate this program. When it works, it works pretty well. But when it doesnt, you are screwed. I use this to take notes in meetings with clients, so that I have the audio to listen to again afterward, as well as the notes that I take during the meetings. Its a really effective way of making sure that I dont miss anything. HOWEVER, this program will randomly decide which files it will or will not open. I now have files from meetings that I cant open, just because. The worst part is that because the note and audio are saved as a bundled file, I have no way of extracting the note I took or just listen to the audio as an audio file. So be warned, dont make the mistake that I did. This is VERY BUGGY, as in ALPHA buggy. Not even beta quality.

This app saves your recordings in its own wacky format. Impossible to use for other things - e.g. share on the web. What a waste of my time (about 45 mins so far…)

so i used your recorder lite to record my grandmother speaking about her life, 3 minutes in have to go buy the real one, open the lite recording into the bought one, and continue. once i was done i hit stop recording and finished. when trying to listen to it again it doesnt play. when trying to save it, it deletes the whole entire 2nd session compleatly. thanks.

I purchased this so that I could get voice notes from my iphone to my macbook because the file format this app uses cannot be read by any other app, which is stupid as far as Im concerned. I was willing to play along, but every time I try to import recordings from my phone, this app crashes. Therefore its totally useless. Dont waste your money!!!

GREAT IDEA, TERRIBLE EXECUTION. EVERY TIME I TRY TO OPEN APP IT CRASHES. WASTE OF TIME. THE ONE STAR IS FOR THE IDEA OF IT, WHICH IS GREAT. TOO BAD IT DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. IM USING A RETINA LAPTOP RUNNING MOUNTAIN LION.

After a few trial recordings, the software stopped recording. No idea why - but when an app intended to record cant do that much - its a critical failure. Feature wise, it has some nice capabilities, but reliable recording is much more improtant in this case.

fair app. but wish it can do dropbox, google drive and sky drive. please recreate a new icon and a UI

I have been using the iPhone version of this app for years. I can no longer get it to successfully export anything to where I can download it. I bought this app hoping that it would at least be able to read the downloaded file, but it does not appear that it is even managing to download. Dropbox sync fails, WiFi sync fails, email quietly fails (claims success but does nothing). ACK!

This recorder is terrible. It records, then when trying to play the audio, the saved audio file will not play. I lost 1 week, 5 classes, of lectures. Will never ever use this application again.
